Camlock Coupling Type B
Camlock coupling Type B is cam and groove coupling a female coupler and a male thread used for quick and secure connections of hoses and pipes. The female coupler has cam arms that lock onto a male adapter (Type A, E, F, or another compatible type), ensuring a secure connection. The male end of Type B has threads that allow it to be screwed into a female-threaded fitting, pipe, or valve.
- Type B Couplers are generally used with the same size Type F adapters.
- However, they are also compatible with the same size Type A and Type E adapters.
- They can be sealed off with the same size Type DP (Dust Plug).
Camlock Standards
Camlock couplings, also known as cam and groove couplings, are standardized under several international and national standards. The primary standards include:
- MIL-C-27487: This is the original military specification developed in the United States, which many commercial camlock couplings are designed to meet.
- EN 14420-7 (formerly DIN 2828): This European standard specifies the dimensions, materials, and performance requirements for cam and groove couplings. It ensures compatibility and interchangeability among manufacturers in Europe.
- A-A-59326: This is a commercial item description (CID) published by the General Services Administration (GSA) in the United States, which has replaced the MIL-C-27487 standard for new designs and procurements. It maintains the requirements for dimensions, materials, and performance similar to MIL-C-27487.
These standards ensure that camlock couplings from different manufacturers can be used interchangeably and meet certain safety and performance criteria. They cover various aspects such as material types (e.g., aluminum, brass, stainless steel, and polypropylene), pressure ratings, and dimensional tolerances.
Description of Camlock Coupling Type B
- Components: Type B consists of a female coupler and a male thread. The female coupler has cam arms that lock onto a male adapter (Type A, E, F, or another compatible type), ensuring a secure connection.
- Connection: The male end of Type B has threads that allow it to be screwed into a female-threaded fitting, pipe, or valve.
- Usage: Type B is typically used when a secure and quick connection to a male-threaded pipe or fitting is needed.
Key Features
- Female Coupler: The cam arms on the female coupler engage with the groove on the male adapter, providing a tight seal.
- Male Thread: The male threaded end (usually NPT or BSP) allows it to be screwed into a corresponding female-threaded fitting.
- Materials: Available in a variety of materials including aluminum, brass, stainless steel, and polypropylene to match different application needs and compatibility with various fluids.
Applications
- Industries: Commonly used in industries such as agriculture, chemicals, petroleum, and water treatment.
- Function: Ideal for applications where a quick connect/disconnect is necessary, especially when connecting hoses to pipes or other threaded fittings.
